Mid-century/desert modern houses
The Vista Las Palmas neighborhood began as Las Palmas EstatesĀ in the late 1950s when the Alexander Construction Co. (run by father & son team, George & Robert) employed architects William Krisel (Palmer & Krisel) andĀ Charles Dubois (responsible for the many so-called Swiss Miss A-frames, among others) to design over 300 “Summit Homes” that would be nestled into the base of Mt. San Jacinto.
Two of the Alexanders (Robert and his wife, Helene) lived in a Las Palmas Estates custom-built home known as The House of TomorrowĀ (1350 Ladera Circle) which was later rented to Elvis and Priscilla Presley as their “Honeymoon Hideaway” in 1968.
Famous Las Palmas neighbors over the years included the likes of Dean Martin, Peter Lawford, Dinah Shore, Kirk Douglas, Debbie Reynolds and Marilyn Monroe.
This neighborhood is one of our favorites and is bordered by Mt. San Jacinto to the West and (roughly) N. Via Monte Vista to the East, Vista Chino to the North and W. Crescent Drive to the South.
